Entrepreneur and entertainment producer Norton Herrick has performed as the chairman and chief executive officer of the Herrick Company, Inc., since the 1960s. When he is not spending time with his family, Norton Herrick uses his Boca Raton, Florida-based business to create innovations in green technology.
Recognizing the importance of environmental sustainability, The Herrick Company invests in green projects around the country. These initiatives improve the economic and environmental health of communities, lead to better ways to take care of the Earth, and reduce litter by recycling already-present material. Most of the Herrick Company’s green focus is on biomass—renewable organic matter—that can function as alternative fuels. One of the Herrick Company’s most notable endeavors is the Fibrominn, a 55-megawatt, poultry-litter-fueled power plant in Benson, Minnesota. Obtaining over $200 million in financing, the Herrick Company and its affiliate HH Capital Advisors, LLC, purchased and leasebacked this first-of-its-kind endeavor. Primarily using turkey manure as biomass, this facility will generate enough electricity for 50,000 homes. Although it utilizes 700,000 tons of material annually, the project’s only byproduct is nutrient-rich ash, which is used as fertilizer. Additionally, the plant’s use of turkey manure supports the state’s turkey industry. |
